Faith / Faith / Hebrews 11:1–3
During times of difficulty be of faith, trusting in God faithfulness to deliver
Intro: On this side of Christ establishing His kingdom on earth, There will always be difficulties to face in this world. Sick loved ones, Financial burdens, etc, etc… Difficult times are apart of life.... during this times it is essential to take the leap of faith.... [Indiana Jones and the Last crusade “leap of faith”]
The original audience fund themselves in a difficult time, persecuted for their faith and drove out of homes, jobs, and families… from the authors view they were in serious spiritual danger. Hey fears they may “drift away” by ignoring so great a salvation” (2:1,3), that they may “harden their hearts” and so “fall short” of the “rest” God promised to His people (3:7-4:11), that by “falling away” they may “crucify the Son of God all over again.” (6:4-6).
Sometimes difficult times are dangerous times, but the author is not saying this from the standpoint that they may lose their salvation. Jesus settled this in
John 10:28–30 NASB95
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. “I and the Father are one.”
